Hal Kemp was one of the most popular bandleaders in the 1930's. He was also a jazz alto saxophonist, a composer and arranger. Kemp first recorded in 1924 with a jazz band that he had formed in college in North Carolina, and the band did their first European tour that year. By the 1930's, Kemp's band was hugely popular, and often featured performing live on the radio. The band introduced many songs, including the fight song for Washington DC's football team - Hail To The Redskins. In 1936, Kemp was featured in a Max Fleischer Screen Songs cartoon No Other One, appearing with his Orchestra and longtime vocalist Skinny Ennis. In December 1940, 36-year old Kemp had a car accident in California -he died in the hospital two days later.
